Nataliya arrived in France, on the outskirts of Auvernha, when she was 19. Her parents had placed her name in a mailorder bride catalog with an agency and she was selected by a 42-year-old gentleman who was requested to marry before the death of his mother to be included in her estate. She accepted her destiny as a wife to a Frenchman. She was happy to leave Russia, but not to leave her sisters behind. She married the man 1 month after arriving in France. It was a marriage of convienence, not one of love or happiness. The man's mother ordered her around and the man was not faithful to her. She laid in the room, wishing she was back in Russia.

After the man's mother died, a year after the marriage, the gentleman requested a divorce. Nataliya, not understanding much about it, agreed because it was her husband, and she was taught to do what her husband asked. He gave a small sum of money and set her up with a small apartment in the city of Arcadia. She was 20 at the time. Not knowing what to do, she sent the money to her parents, requesting that they send her sisters over to her, lying to them and telling them that France was a wonderful place. She didn't want to be alone in a country she hardly knew and a language she did not understand.

Nataliya worked odd jobs here and there, but took a job as a showgirl at the Utopia Casino Resort with her sisters when she heard of the opening. She still does not understand much English or French, but has gotten better and can understand and speak the important commands. She's understanding and does what anyone asks of her, but she's strong with her sisters. She loves dancing at Utopia, imagining it to be like the Russian Ballet, which had been a childhood dream. She will do anything to keep the job she has there.

I was very surprised to see Kostya last night! Imagine us meeting up in a small establishment in France! Out of all the places in this country, he picked the one that we were all working out and chose to come on the night were we performing. I was just happy to see someone from Russia...an old friend. Someone we knew. Living in France is so hard sometimes and we have not met many people. It's hard to tell who to trust in this country. I suppose it's like that in Russia as well, but it's harder because we're just trying to make a living. I have been in this country for 5 years now, but it has yet to get better. We are still struggling to make rent payments and food. Seeing a familiar face was just very nice for us.

I don't understand why he would take an accountant job. That is very unlike Kostya. He is intelligent though, so perhaps he is very good at this new job. I do hope that we can keep in touch with him here.
