An illegitimate son of Alejandro Montoya, Diego was born to a poor single mother in Buenaventura, Colombia (one of the deadliest cities in the nation--the murder rate is 24 times that of New York's). Though constantly surrounded by drug trafficking, gang activitity, violence, and the presence of guerilla groups, Diego in one way or another has managed to keep his head on straight. Unlike many of his friends, he stayed in high school and graduated with a transcript mostly filled with A's. Not wanting to fall by the wayside and end up in a gang or fast food chain, he continued on with his studies, working his way through college. He was a waitor at a family-owned Colombian restaurant during the day, and then went to night classes in a small unaccredited school where he learned English, International Relations, and Latin American history. However, when he was only 8 credits shy of a Bachelor degree, he had to drop out and work full time--his mother had fallen terribly ill, and did not have health insurance. To manage the piling hospital bills, Diego turned to cage fighting and boxing, where a single night could win him hundreds of dollars. He made a reputation for himself in the underground world, but again, declined any and all invitations into gangs or criminal organizations. When his mother passed away in the fall of 2016, Diego decided to reunite with distant relatives in Auvernha, France. The past 25 years have done a lot for him. He has seen social injustice against the poor and against certain ethnic groups. He has witnessed the crimes of crooked politicians and cops, and has observed the 'system' operating on the blistered backs of the working class. An avid reader of Che Guevara, Diego is himself a socialist. He is looking for the right opportunity to spread his ideas through Europe and perhaps begin an uprising on behalf of the people who most need it.
